Bilateral Agreement Between Sri Lanka and Israel
Sri Lanka and Israel marking a historical landmark in the bilateral relations between the countries signed the bilateral agreement on the Temporary Employment of Sri Lankan workers in specific Labour Market Sectors in Israel on 24 February 2020. Due to outbreak of global pandemic of Covid-19, there was a delay in its implementation which commenced in February 2022.
The aim of the agreement is to ensure a legal, fair and transparent caregiver recruitment process for Sri Lankans to work in Israel for a period of 5 years. The agreement will require both countries to work together to improve the process of selection, recruitment, placement, arrival and employment of Sri Lankan caregivers as well as their return to Sri Lanka after the temporary employment and to promote the protection of the labour rights of Sri Lankan caregivers in Israel.
Through this agreement, there will be more caregiving opportunities in Israel available for Sri Lankans. Further, it will help to increase the foreign exchange flow into the country, strengthening the economy of Sri Lanka.
2,000 Care Giver jobs
in Israel for Sri Lankans
Within the framework of the signed bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and Israel, there are employment opportunities for over 2,000 Sri Lankans on Home-based Caregiving in Israel. Approximately 90% being for women and 10% being for men.
Eligibility Criteria
- Age: 25-45 years
- Height: minimum 1.5 meters | weight: minimum 45kg
- Gender: preferably female
- Has completed at least 10 years of schooling
- Either has completed a minimum of 11 months of practical nursing training course and is recognized as a practical nurse by relevant Sri Lankan authorities Or
Has completed the NVQ LVL 3 Vocational Training Certificate in Caregiving within a minimum of 45 days and has received a certificate by relevant Sri Lankan authorities. - Proficiency in conversational English is required with the ability to successfully face an interview.
- Has not previously worked in Israel
- Does not have a spouse/ children/ parents working or residing in Israel
- Has no criminal record
- A Sri Lankan citizen
- Physical and mental fitness to the job. Does not suffer from diseases/ chronic medical conditions including but not limited to tuberculosis, hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, and AIDS. Capable of performing difficult caregiving tasks including heavy lifting
- No history of drug or alcohol abuse
- Fulfills any other relevant criteria as requested by PIBA
